When it comes to well-known anime characters, Pokémon's original trio are some of the most iconic characters imaginable, rivaled only by mega hits like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. Misty's spicy attitude while still clearly caring for her friends made her an instant hit with fans, and she was still popular enough to be brought back 25 years later for the series' closing episodes.

Few characters have appeared in the Pokémon anime more than Misty, and she's had her fair share of episodes focused on her. Some of these episodes have Misty acting alone, while others showcase how she relates to her Pokémon or works together with her friends. This episode is a fun twist for those who haven’t played the games, while explaining how Misty is able to travel for those who have. Misty puts up a respectable fight here against Ash, and makes smart use of the terrain to her advantage. Unfortunately, the gym battle is one of many interrupted by Team Rocket, but it still managed to show Misty in a new light.
9 The Blue Badge of Courage
Pokémon Chronicles, Episode #9
✕ Remove Ads
“The Blue Badge of Courage” is a side-story episode from the spinoff series Pokémon Chronicles, which focuses exclusively on Misty, with no Ash to be seen. Misty finds that her gym has run out of badges, and must set out (alongside her challenger) to an artisan who makes the badges. The artisan puts Misty, Tracey, and the challenger through the ringer, having them perform all manner of difficult tasks related to manufacturing the badges. Misty must fend off thieves and prove her worth as a gym leader if she’s to receive more badges to hand out.
As an episode centered squarely on Misty, it shows how seriously she takes her position as a gym leader, as well as revealing the surprisingly complex nature of gym badge production. Misty is willing to put in the hard work it takes to be a gym leader, proving she’s every bit as dedicated as Ash is.
8 A Fated Face-Off!
Pokémon Journeys, Episode #138
✕ Remove Ads
This episode marked Misty’s return as Ash’s traveling partner for the first time since the two originally parted ways almost a thousand episodes prior. While traveling, Ash encounters Misty by chance, and the two quickly fall back into old habits as they compete over the right to catch a Clauncher. They attempt to fish for it, but the Clauncher is too intelligent. When Team Rocket tries to take it, Ash and Misty team up to repel them, and then battle it out against each other. Misty manages to beat Ash, and catches Clauncher!
It’s also simply a pleasure to see her again before the end, especially her (hilarious) reunion with Pikachu.
Aside from being Misty’s first appearance in around 200 episodes, and her return to main character status, this episode proves Misty’s skills by having her hold her own against, and eventually defeat Ash, only a few episodes after he became world champion. It’s also simply a pleasure to see her again before the end, especially her (hilarious) reunion with Pikachu.

7 Who Gets to Keep Togepi?
Pokémon The Original Series, Episode #50
Having discovered a mysterious egg a few episodes ago, Team Rocket try to steal it, and actually get away with it for a little while. When Ash, Misty, and Brock go to retrieve it, the egg finally hatches into the newly discovered species, Togepi. Everyone, including Team Rocket, argue over whose it should be, and they have a tournament to decide. While Ash wins the tournament, the newly hatched Togepi imprints on Misty as its mother, settling the matter for everyone.
Togepi would perhaps become Misty’s most iconic Pokémon, always carried with her throughout the rest of the original series. Togepi’s reveal was also incredibly exciting at the time, as it was one of the first Johto Pokémon to be revealed to fans, well before the games’ release. Misty showed off a more motherly side with Togepi, one that had rarely been seen up to this point.

6 Bye Bye Psyduck
Pokémon The Original Series, Episode #91
Misty’s Psyduck is her other most iconic Pokémon, constantly irritating her with its frequent uselessness in battle, while occasionally showing great power that it can’t fully control. Misty meets another Water-type trainer in this episode, who points out that her Psyduck may be preparing to evolve. When a Golduck jumps out of the water and follows her orders in battle against this new friend, Misty assumes it’s her Psyduck evolved, and celebrates.
Team Rocket attacks, and Misty must use Golduck to defeat them. In the end, though, it wasn’t her Golduck at all, but a wild one that likes to show off.

This episode helps to establish how much Misty actually cares about Psyduck, despite appearances at times. While her Psyduck may not have evolved, it was still impressive that Misty was able to command a wild Pokémon in battle, and even win using it, something even the best trainers will struggle with.
5 The Misty Mermaid
Pokémon The Original Series, Episode #61
With her Horsea feeling ill, Misty makes a return trip to Cerulean Gym, where she discovers her sisters are putting on an underwater play, and they want her in the lead role, as a mermaid. While Misty is not enthused, she agrees anyway. With the play going on, Team Rocket infiltrate the show, turning it into a real battle. Using the gym’s Pokémon, Misty is able to defeat them, giving the play an explosive ending that the crowd can’t get enough of.

This episode allows Misty to show off some of her other talents, such as her incredible swimming talent, as well as her amazing ability to hold her breath. She even earns a rare moment of praise from Ash. It’s also the last appearance of Misty’s Horsea, which remains at the gym to heal, showing Misty putting the health of her Pokémon first.
4 When Regions Collide!
Pokémon Sun & Moon, Episode #43
Ash and his classmates from Alola’s Pokémon school take a field trip to Kanto, where they meet up with Brock and Misty for the first time in hundreds of episodes. Brock and Misty prove that they haven’t been slacking while out of focus, with both of them now capable of utilizing Mega Evolution, something even Ash hadn’t yet mastered at the time. Misty has an epic battle with Ash, her Mega Gyarados against his Pikachu. Using a Z-move, Ash and Pikachu manage to sneak out the win, somehow overcoming Misty’s massive and powerful Pokémon.

While Pikachu wins, Misty’s skills are shown to have grown immensely, and she’s strategizing at a level which she hadn’t really demonstrated before. The episode is an excellent bit of continuity for long-time fans, proving Brock and Misty are as formidable as gym leaders should be.
3 A Togepi Mirage!
Pokémon Ruby And Sapphire, Episode #45
Misty rejoined Ash for a brief adventure during the Hoenn era, in this second half of a two-parter. While traveling together, the group discovers a place known as the Mirage Kingdom, which has a secret land of Togepi hidden within. An evil colonel plots a coup to overthrow the king, and Misty and Togepi fight valiantly, but Togepi only has so much power. That’s when Togepi evolves in dramatic fashion, protecting everyone. Misty calls upon Gyarados to defeat the colonel. However, with the Togepi paradise threatened, her Togetic decides to remain behind to protect it, resulting in a tearful farewell.

Misty is also quite mature about her goodbye with Togepi, understanding that it’s for the best, even in spite of the incredible bond that they shared.
This episode is obviously significant for being Togepi’s last appearance, as well as a rare return of Misty. But Misty once again proves she’s grown as a trainer in her absence from the show, impressing Ash with Gyarados. Misty is also quite mature about her goodbye with Togepi, understanding that it’s for the best, even in spite of the incredible bond that they shared.
2 The Stun Spore Detour
Pokémon The Original Series, Episode #110
✕ Remove Ads
While traveling through the Orange Islands, Ash and Tracey are hit by a Vileplume’s Stun Spore, leaving both of them paralyzed. Misty learns of an underwater weed that grows nearby which could cure them, and sets out by herself to obtain it. Misty befriends a local Poliwag that helps her to locate the weed, and Misty uses her diving expertise to obtain it. Unfortunately, she crosses paths with Team Rocket, also after the weed to help Jessie, and is forced to fend them off herself. Misty bonds with Poliwag, and eventually catches it after healing Ash and Tracey.
With Ash and Tracey out of the picture, this episode puts Misty in the spotlight, and she’s able to use her unique skills to help save her friends. Misty’s Poliwag would go on to be an essential member of her team, eventually evolving into a Politoed in Johto.
1 Cerulean Blues
Pokémon Chronicles, Episode #6
✕ Remove Ads
Serving as the gym leader of the Cerulean City Gym, Misty discovers that a gym inspector is on their way to inspect the gym, but Misty has bigger problems: a Magikarp evolved into Gyarados, and is going wild in the gym. Misty attempts to quell Gyarados’ rage, but is forced to lock Gyarados up in a cage to keep damage to a minimum. The gym is challenged by enemies of Misty who want to take over as gym leader. They fight dirty, attacking the imprisoned Gyarados, forcing misty to protect it. Gyarados is moved by Misty’s defense, and defeats the attackers.
Misty is established to have a major fear of Gyarados, so dealing with it at all was a great moment of character development for her, arguably her greatest in the entire series. Misty overcomes her fear and makes Gyarados her Pokémon, which would go on to appear in several later episodes (some mentioned above) as her ace. Due to the excellent character growth Misty undergoes in this episode, it’s without a doubt the best episode of Pokémon starring Misty.
